The funds generously donated by the 2001 Queen's Award winners totalled £127,509.62. They were distributed in support of six separate research projects, five of which received academic supervision. The sixth fellowship supported research leading to the development and manufacture of a life-saving garment for children, to be marketed on a not-for-profit basis.

Project funds were distributed in the following way:

The Queen's Awards Office met all of the administrative costs of this initiative, and the entire amount donated by Award winners was spent in support of research and dissemination of the results.
