Queen's Awards for sustainability

Outstanding companies in the recycling industry are celebrating after being given the highest accolade for business related success in the UK.
Queen's Awards have been given to a number of organisations in the sector, with Playtop receiving recognition for its efforts involving recycled materials in a number of countries.
The company, based in Edinburgh and Newark, was honoured for installing more than a million square metres of safety surfacing in playgrounds from Japan to Euro Disney using old truck tyres in the process.
ACO Technologies was rewarded for its integrated surface water management system that is part-manufactured from recycled materials. Balcan Engineering was recognised for developing innovative equipment for recycling waste fluorescent lighting tubes.
In all, seven Queen's Awards were given for sustainable development as she handed out 145 awards on her 80th birthday.
Confederation of British Industries director-general Sir Digby Jones said: "The Queen's Awards have been a benchmark of business success for 40 years, helping thousands of firms to open up new markets, improve sales, enhance the commercial value of products and services, and boost staff morale and motivation.
"This prestigious business award rewards the commercial acumen of Britain's leading companies, and I congratulate all the winners on their achievement."
The winning companies will benefit from extensive publicity and the use of the Queen's Award emblem for five years as a symbol of their commercial success.
