NOTTS firms are being urged to put themselves forward for prestigious Queen’s Awards.

Officials from the scheme, sometimes dubbed corporate knighthoods, were in Nottingham yesterday to visit winners and promote the benefits of winning the Award.

Stephen Brice, secretary to the Queen’s Awards office, and David Moore, secretary to the Prime Minister’s advisory committee, want to encourage firms of any size to enter for the 2007 Awards.

This year 145 companies won Queen’s Awards – the highest for 11 years.

There are ten NOTTS holders, six of them in Nottingham.  They include the University of Nottingham and Newson Gale.

Mr Brice is convinced the number could be higher.

He said:  “Wherever we go, previous winners tell us how much they have benefited from their Queen’s Awards.”

Business described the Award as “prestigious”, “a quality standard” and “symbolic of success”
