02/05/2003
Recycling World
ENVIRONMENTAL AND sustainable business initiatives have been given the royal seal of approval. The annual Queen's Awards for Enterprise have this year rewarded 120 companies for their business achievements, with many accolades being given for sustainable development and international trade. Leading glass recycler, Rockware Glass is celebrating after receiving an award for its success in increasing glass recycling and reducing environmental impact.
Easypack, the Hertfordshire-based firm which manufactures machines for recycling surplus cardboard into packaging material, was also among the winners for 2003. The company, which began trading in 1992, sells its products to all European countries and also manufactures machines that convert two or three-ply paper rolls into protective void fill packaging.
"To win a Queen's Award for Enterprise is a significant achievement," said Alan Johnson, Minister for Employment Relations, Industry and the Regions. "Successful companies can be justifiably proud of their success - they have proved they are leaders in their field and among the most innovative and enterprising businesses in the country. As such, they represent powerful role models to aspiring firms throughout Britain and around the world."
