Awards for sustainable approach to business

Three metals recycling companies have been named as recipients of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, the annual accolade that celebrates business success.

Avon Metals, Dunn Brothers and Metal Interests are among the 119 winners of this year’s awards, which recognise a range of business achievements including innovation and international trade efforts.

A further eight companies from a range of sectors picked up a Queen’s Award for Sustainable Development - Benchmark Woodworking, Bettys & Taylors Group (food and drink), The Co-Operative Group, Crest Nicholson (house building), Epsilon Technical (safety services), Fibrecore (optical fibres), Seacout (printing) and Yell (information directory).

To mark their achievement, a representative from each winning company was invited to attend a special reception on Tuesday (April 24) in the presence of HRH the Duke of York. The actual presentation of each company’s award by a Queen’s representative takes place later in the year, normally during local ceremonies in the workplace which permit employees to share in the celebrations. Winning firms benefit from publicity, increased recognition and the opportunity to use the Queen’s Award Emblem on marketing material for five years.

Director-general of the CBI, Richard Lambert, said: “Winning a Queen’s Award for Enterprise is a tremendous achievement and this year’s winners are worthy recipients. They will provide inspiration for other businesses to follow in their footsteps and give the UK the cutting edge it needs to succeed in the twenty-first century.”
