Firms urged to get the royal seal of approval
A Bromyard company which won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise last year is encouraging other Herefordshire firms to apply for the prestigious corporate awards.
Micron Sprayers Ltd, which specialises in manufacturing horticultural and agricultural spraying equipment, received the honour in November for success in international trade.
Chairman Tom Bals said: “Company profits increased by 110% between 2002 and 2004 and turnover rose from 2m to 4.5m during that period.
“As a result of achieving a Queen’s Award, our sales figures have increased. We think it’s the most prestigious award we have been given by far as it is a recognition of international success and a good marketing tool.”
The firm, which employs a workforce of 40, was visited last week by David Moore, the secretary to the Prime Minister’s Advisory Committee on the awards, to discuss the benefits of winning the title.
“The award gives a boost to staff morale as they like to feel they are working for a successful organisation. It is recognised worldwide and also helps a company to market itself,” said David.
“People trying to break into new markets can find the awards can help and past winners have included smaller companies with only three employees, right up to multinational companies.”
Established in 1966, the Queen’s Awards are presented in three separate categories -
International Trade, Innovation and Sustainable Development. The main requirements are that the business must be based in the UK, employ at least two people and be able to demonstrate commercial success.
The closing date for applications is October 31 and businesses can apply online on the website at www.queensawards.org.uk
