Scots firms urged to enter Awards
An East Kilbride company that has benefited from winning a top business accolade is encouraging others to apply for the award.
Glencairn Crystal Ltd scooped a Queen’s Award for enterprise in recognition of its specially designed whisky glass.
The family run firm said receiving the prestigious prize had helped boost its standing.
The company has appealed to other businesses to apply for next year’s awards before the October deadline.
Glencairn Crystal supplies more than one million glasses a year around the world.
Director Scott Davidson said winning the award in April this year had enhanced the company’s business profile.
He said: “Everyone likes to be associated with success, and recognition of a supplier’s achievements by a body such as the Queen’s Awards office, encourages confidence in business.
“The award logo also generates a feel-good element for new clients, who immediately recognise that they are dealing with a company of repute,” he added.
Representatives from the Queen’s Award office were in Scotland this week to encourage other business to put themselves forward for the prize.
Stephen Brice, secretary to the Queen’s Awards office, said: “We know that winners such as Glencairn Crystal take great pride in their awards and we hope that more Scottish businesses will be inspired to follow them by applying for a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2008.”
He added: “Over the past five year, 10 businesses in this area have won the award, but more need to apply to reap the rewards of being a winner.”
The deadline for this year’s awards is 31 October, 1007. Winners and recipients will be announced on 21 April 2008.
