Experiencing a royal increase in turnover
The royal crest flying proudly above the factory tells a tale of excellence.
East Hull-based Allam Marine has grown in stature since receiving the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in international trade.
The generator manufacturing firm won the award last year and now the secretary to the Prime Minister’s Queen’s Awards advisory committee, David Moore, has visited the site to discover how it has grown.
Operations director Ehab Allam said since receiving the award, the company has grown from strength to strength.
He said: “It’s given us credibility when we approach new markets. We’ve expanded a fair bit since winning.”
The firm, which has outgrown its base in Lime Street, east Hull, and is expanding into a £5m plant in Gibson Lane, Melton, now employs 30 people and has a turnover of more than £60m.
Mr Allam said he hopes to turn over £75m by the end of the year, rising to as projected £100m by the end of 2008.
Mr Allam said: “The Queen’s Award will give us the credibility and the confidence to make that happen.
“The award has given the firm prestige as well as adding value to our brand of generators.
“It has enabled us to win high-profile contracts such as powering a new airport in northern Iraq.
“It has also helped us win a significant share of the market in new territories such as Russia.”
Stephen Brice, secretary to the Queen’s Awards office, said: “We know winners take great pride in their awards and as we visit each region we hope more businesses will be inspired to follow them by applying for a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2008.
“The award has helped Allam Marine shine in the national and international marketplace.”
Firms have until October 31 to apply for the awards.
