Hampshire Chronicle

A company based near Winchester is celebrating after being presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise and Innovation by Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex.
Staff and client representatives of Structural Statics gathered in a marquee at their premises in Kings Worthy, on Tuesday, to watch the managing director, Alan Kenchington, receive the engraved crystal award.
Also attending were the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Mary Fagan, and her husband, Captain Christopher Fagan, and the mayor of Winchester, Joan Hammerton and her husband Donald.
Founded in 1983 and employing 12 staff, the company was praised for its development of computer sensors which assess risk by measuring movement in, for instance, bridges, airports and railways.
Dennis Church, an engineer sub-contracted with London Underground, which is one of the company’s clients, said: “They’re monitoring railway bridges and checking stress levels as trains go over, which allows us to predict the life of a structure.”
Mr Kenchington said he was delighted to receive the Award and praised the hard work and commitment of his staff had put in and he added that he planned he now intended to develop the firms export client base.
