Queen’s Award For Wokingham Firm

A Wokingham fibre optics firm has been recognised for its achievements and awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for its innovative products.
The optoelectronics division of PerkinElmer UK, at Mulberry Business Park, Molly Millers Lane, was recognised for the design and manufacture of portable, laptop PC based devices for testing how much data can be transmitted over high speed fibre optic communication networks.
Employees attended a reception at Buckingham Palace last week and were one of the 109 winners selected from more than 1,000 proposed companies.
Dr Ian MacKensie, managing director of PerkinElmer, said; “The receipt of two Queen’s Awards is a tremendous achievement and recognises the effort of all our team based in the UK and overseas.
The division also received the Queen’s Award for International Trade 2003 for exceptional performance in the arenas of international sales and is one of only three companies this year to have two awards.
The Duke of Kent will by visiting the factory to make a formal presentation on Thursday, November 6.
