Right Royal Success as Firms scoop top Awards - 16/07/2003

Two Scottish companies have scooped top awards for excellence in international trade and innovation.
Eight winners attended a glittering reception at Buckingham Palace to receive The Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2003.
Winners included the Royal Bank of Scotland Group in the international trade category, and East Kilbride firm, Controlled Therapeutics, who picked up a prize for innovation.
UK Minister of State for Industry and the Regions, Jacqui Smith, says the accolade is not one which is given lightly.
She said: “I want to congratulate all of this year’s winners on their outstanding achievement in receiving this highly-acclaimed award.
“Previous winners have seen their reputation improve both at home and overseas, and a recent survey showed that winning a Queen’s Award can boost staff morale by as much as 80%.”
There were 123 winners UK-wide, and each of them received a crystal bowl and a scroll signed by the Prime Minister.
The prestigious awards have been running since 1965 and are divided into three categories: International Trade, Innovation and Sustainable Development.
