Pfizer Wins Award For Its Enterprise
03/07/2003
Surrey Mirror
Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Ltd received its seventh Queen’s Award for Enterprise on Monday.
The award was made for International Trade and reflects the success of Pfizer’s business in the UK, which is responsible for discovering four of the company’s top 10 medicines including Viagra, which is used in the treatment of male impotence.
The Award was presented at the firm’s new multi-million pound state-of-the-art head office at Walton Oaks, Burgh Heath, by the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Sarah Goad, on behalf of The Queen, to Dr Olivier Brandcourt, UK manager.
Guests at the ceremony included the Mayor of Reigate, Councillor Phillip Circus.
The award was granted to Pfizer for outstanding achievement in International Trade, resulting in substantial growth in overseas earnings and in commercial success.
Dr Brandcourt said: “We’re delighted to have received this reward in recognition of the increasing amount of International Trade being generated by Pfizer’s UK business.
“It bears testimony to the excellence of our people here in the UK, who have discovered and developed four of our top 10 most widely prescribed medicines globally and which continue to generate significant income for the UK business.”
He added: “It is also an acknowledgment of the substantial contribution Pfizer makes to the UK economy, in which we have made a capital investment of more than £1 billion since 1998. This Illustrates our commitment to the UK and the fact that it remains Europe’s most favourable environment for research and development based industry.
Pfizer’s last Queen’s Award was received in 2001 for innovation in the discovery and development of Viagra.
