Swindon Evening Advertiser
Two Wiltshire companies today won prestigious awards in the annual Queen’s Awards for Enterprise.
Omitec Group Ltd of Devizes scooped an award in the International Trade category, while Dyson Ltd of Malmesbury scored in the Innovation category.
The two companies are among 123 winners honoured for outstanding contributions in international trade, innovation and sustainable development.
Omitec, which employs 200 staff on its Hopton Estate plant, designs and manufactures text systems for automotive design engineers, vehicle manufactures and garage service bays.
Chairman John Watkins said: “We are absolutely delighted and honoured to receive this prestigious award.
It reflects the outstanding achievements of the exceptional people at Omitec, to whom I am very grateful.”
Mr Watkins said the award had been made in recognition of the company’s export sales, which have grown by more than 500 per cent in the past three years, while export revenues have increased from 28 per cent to more than 60 per cent.
He said: “As a result of this award we hope existing customers will be pleased to have played their part and that prospective customers will see that Omitec is a thriving, successful partner for their needs.”
Dyson’s success has been achieved in the innovation and development of vacuum cleaner cyclone technology.
The company currently employs, 1,2000 people and invests heavily in research and development.
Over 10 years Dyson has registered over 669 patents and has patents pending on more than 120 inventions.
James Dyson CBE, chairman of the company, said: “This award is a fantastic achievement for everyone at Dyson.
We are committed to developing new technologies and investing in Research and Development to make products that work better.”
Ironically, last year Dyson announced production of its world famous vacuum cleaners would stop in Wiltshire when production moved to Malaysia.
Production of washing machines, and research and development, remains in Malmesbury.
