Enterprising McCain Picks up Top Award
21/04/2003
Scarborough Evening News
Scarborough based McCain Foods is one of just nine companies in the Yorkshire region to have been picked for a top award.
The Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2003 has been given to the company under the innovation category.
It has been made for the continuous innovation and development of McCain Home Fries oven chips.
The firm promotes the production on the grounds that the chip “tastes as good as fried chips” and says it is regularly enjoyed by one in four British families.
The Home Fries brand came on to the market in 1997 and has created a sector worth more than £60 million a year.
The company, which is based in Eastfield, has become the UK’s largest manufacturer of frozen potato products and the third largest frozen food company overall, operating six plants and employing a workforce of 2,500.
Nick Vermont, managing director of McCain Foods GB Ltd, said: “Innovation is at the heart of the McCain business and is crucial to the development and success of all our brands.
“This award recognises the efforts of every McCain employee to continue to drive our business through the highest levels of excellence.”
