The Queen's Awards for Enterprise 2004
21/04/2004
Her Majesty The Queen today announced 112 prestigious Awards honouring outstanding companies, from a small firm with only two employees to a giant organisation employing more than 12,000. Award winners come from almost every corner of the UK, manufacturing products ranging from Scotch whisky and breakfast cereals to flying insect control equipment and a GPS-based low bridge warning system for high vehicles.
This year's winners in the International Trade category include companies providing financial services and an international airline to manufacturers of malted ingredients for food and beverages, and textile lifting equipment for advanced operating and handling techniques by the worldwide shipping community.
Awards in the Innovation category recognise a broad spectrum of outstanding achievement from the design and development of CCTV products for the domestic security market, and a provider of a time-critical business mail service, to innovative products for fixing wallplugs into oversized holes, and a device for detecting water leaks by noise location.
Winners in this year’s Sustainable Development category include a countryside centre that specialises in farm-based respite care and rural arts holidays, a sustainable visitor attraction that provides remote wildlife viewing, and a bank whose sustainability vision is based on innovation in the field of savings and investment banking for individuals, and business banking for organisations with social, cultural and environmental goals.
A full winners’ listing will be published in a special supplement to The London Gazette on Wednesday 21 April, The Queen’s personal birthday. Details of the winners are provided in The Queen’s Awards Press Book. Winners are listed in alphabetical order, in each category, including their location, a brief summary of their general activity and achievement, and the name and telephone number of the contact whom press representatives may approach for further information. The Press Book can be obtained from Mary Maden, tel 0161 952 4508. Trade Press should contact Nick Vellacott Highlight PR tel 01249 462792
